Early Detection for the Prostate Gland

In Germany there are 50,000 new cases of prostate cancer among men per year. The chance of detecting the cancer at a stage when it is still curable is about 25% when using the digital rectal examination method. The chance of discovering a tumour early enough using an endorectal ultrasound examination is about 54%. A positive PSA value in a screening programme is very unreliable as a basis for diagnosis. In contrast, the MRI prostate early detection programme provides 3-dimensional high resolution images as a basis for diagnosis (morphology) and thanks to spectroscopy on a molecular level make diagnoses possible with a liability rate of 90%.

The Prostate Scan is recommended for all men

  • For whom a prostate biopsy is planned. The removal of tissue samples from the prostate gland for diagnostic purposes does not only involve the risks of the operation, but the results of the biopsy are not always reliable either: more than 30% of prostate carcinomas are not detected even though substantial tissue samples are taken.
  • Who are over the age of 50. If the prostate gland is examined regularly in accordance with the latest medical-technical standards in cooperation with urologists, it is possible to diagnose this condition in its early stages.
  • With a family history of prostate cancer.

What is special about DiVoCare’s prostate early detection programme?

Maximum reliability of diagnosis:

Our 3-Tesla MRI scanner combines the advantages of very sensitive morphological representations with the high specificity of a spectroscopy.

Precise localization:

The clear images provided by our MRI scanner allow us to pinpoint tumours which are smaller than 2 millimeters in size. Subsequently tissue samples can be taken for further diagnosis.

Painless diagnosis procedures:

When a 3-Tesla MRI scanner is used to examine the prostate gland, an examination using an endorectal coil is no longer necessary. If a MRI scanner with a field strength that is lower is used, an additional examination using a rectal probe, which is often unpleasant, is indispensable.
